So, just found out via twitter that they are rebooting/relaunching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (hero in a half shell)!
And I am ridiculously excited about this.
Now I know what you're thinking.
WHY?
And it's not that easy to explain. Well, it is, I just feel a bit silly.
I LOVED the cartoon. I mean, I really LOVED the cartoon.
I still know every line of the theme song. I still call them 'hero' turtles. I genuinely thought the 'turtle tips' would turn out to be vitally useful in later life.
Heck, I still refer to bad hair cuts as Bebop or Rocksteady worthy.
My first exposure to direct marketing cartoons, and I didn't care a bit. (Thankfully I also had parents who were happy to get us one set of toys, then resolutely refused to bow down to pester power.) From about 3 years, I was happiest when I'd a tea towel tied around my head, home made nun chucks (toilet rolls and string - it was all very MacGuiver) in hand, and a sofa to do my totally authentic ninja rolls.
By the time the life action films were being made, I had started to move on. I enjoyed the first film, but thankfully was out of the continent when the sequels were released. I did unfortunately catch the 2007 TMNT atrocity.
Least said best I think there.
But this one...this most recent reboot...it's got geeks attached.
Like Sean Austin - who proved his worth (to me anyway) by accurately identifying Raphael as the coolest of the turtles. He also happens to be providing that characters voice. (ahem)
Joining him is Jason Biggs (Leonardo), Greg Cipes (Michelangelo) and Rob Paulsen (Donatello).
Next year has just started to look a little brighter to me.
(And if you were wondering, it's why I say dude so often. I used to lie - say it was a Wayne's World or Bill and Ted thing. But it isn't. It was the turtles. I'm so ashamed.)
